Bio

Mitchell T. “Mitch” Gilly (1999) is a Lebanese-American Composer, Arranger, Saxophonist, Woodwind Multi-Instrumentalist, and Educator based in Austin, TX. As a Composer, Mitch has been commissioned by numerous ensembles for a variety of projects including the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Baylor Symphony Orchestra, L.D. Bell High School Symphony Orchestra, Rice Middle School Wind Ensemble, and Running Brushy Middle School Symphonic Band. He has written for wind ensemble, jazz band, musical theatre, orchestra, pit band, multiple standard and nontraditional chamber groups, film, and video games.

Mitch graduated with a double Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition and Saxophone Performance from Baylor University in 2021, then again with a Master’s Degree in Music Composition in 2023. While at Baylor, he had a large number of his works performed by some of the Baylor School of Music Ensembles (Ethereality performed by the Wayne Fischer Jazz Ensemble in 2021 and Break a Reed!, Sunset Valley, O Le Le Akita Tonga, and Ole’ Gramps by the Baylor Wind Symphony in 2022). While studying at Baylor, Mitch was able to win a Music Arranger position for All-University Sing!, a 75+ year Baylor Tradition that has become very well-known in the Central Texas area.

In addition to his writing, Mitch also organized two concerts featuring the Tavernapple Big Band, a jazz band he founded. Both concerts (Nov. 2019 and Mar. 2023) featured jazz arrangements of popular Video Game Music from games such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Persona, Undertale/Deltarune, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, and more.

When not working in music, Mitch is an avid gamer, hiker, baker, and mixologist. He dreams of opening a Jazz Barcade where people can listen to jazz arrangements of Video Game Music while playing vintage arcade games.
